MORE THAN JUST MEASURING

Behind the facade

Many houses go through major changes during different periods of time but rather than
opting for complete demolition they often grow the house around what is already there.

1 Here what looks like a single storey extension is actually the earlier building.

The framing on the other side reveals the end of the original building
which has a grown-on extension and 2nd storey.

Another example
From the outside this looks like a late 18 century/early 19 century cottage with additions.
But the back wall is the remains of a single storey building which is possibly 400 years older, complete with tree trunk.
